Class Description
I believe that we all need to find a way to express ourselves to release the energy that lives within us, that we absorb from the world around us. In this live online classes we will explore different mediums of art to find our voice.
I am going to introduce art as a form of expression. presenting a piece of art for interpretation, giving the students access to visual art and writing to form their own opinion. I am also going to use music and poetry with the lyrics on the screen, for the students to engage in. And lastly, we would delve into various visual art projects. Vision boards, Watercolor paintings to express feelings, and shapes as an introduction to drawing.

Syllabus

Session 1: Introduction to Expressive Art (1 hour)

Introduce the three mediums of writing, visual art, and drawing

Discuss the benefits of using art for self-expression

Explain the difference between poetry, journaling, and lyrics

Begin with writing exercise, encouraging the student to explore their emotions through words

Move on to visual art and drawing exercises

End with a discussion on the poem "Still I Rise" and its use of multiple expressive mediums

Provide an opportunity for the student to create their own poem based on their personal experiences or a chosen quote
Session 2: Self-Exploration through Art (1 hour)

Discuss the previous session's exercises and explore the use of alliteration in writing

Encourage the student to reflect on their work and how they relate to it

Introduce Deepak Chopra's teachings on self-awareness and spirituality

Use art to further explore the student's beliefs and values

End with a discussion on the importance of self-awareness and reflection in healing
Session 3: Introduction to an Artist (1 hour)

Introduce an artist (e.g. Frida Kahlo) and their story

Show slides of their work and focus on one piece for interpretation

Discuss the artist's techniques and their message to the audience

Encourage the student to choose a piece of their own to present and interpret

End with a reflection on what stood out to the student and how they can apply these techniques to their own work
Session 4: Free Expression (1 hour)

Encourage the student to create their own artwork using their preferred medium

Provide a loose exercise to help them get started and feel comfortable expressing themselves

Encourage them to reflect on their work and what it represents to them

End with a discussion on the importance of freedom of expression and its role in healing
Overall, the syllabus emphasizes self-expression, exploration, and reflection through various art mediums. It also encourages the student to explore the work of others and interpret it in their own way. The final session allows for complete freedom of expression and choice of medium, empowering the student to continue their artistic journey beyond the class.
